Hello, Have a Canon AV-1 in excellent condition. Shutter works on B setting, but not on A or 60.
Meter works well. I've replaced with new battery. Is there any hope for a not to difficult fix? Or should it become a parts camera? Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Ah! I have just this afternoon completed a virtual rebuild of my AV-1. You might try the following. The top plate comes off easily. The pin face cap of the film advance lever unscrews conventionally (ie: it is NOT a left-hand thread).

The shutter dial stays with the top-plate.
Set it to "A" and the ASA to 100. This so that you know how i should mate up when it comes to replacing the top-plate.

You will see the mating parts affixed to the camera body. Specifically gold-plated wipers on a track. Clean the track and check that the wipers are applying consistent light tension and, are not buckled, twisted or mistracking.

This would be a good time to check for possible solder dry joints in the vicinity.

The problem could of course be in the shutter-speed microprocessor controller or, it could be sticky mechanicals. But the procedure which I have suggested is certainly a first and eay port of call.

Hope this helps
