Bought another Pentax, a Spotmatic. This has been converted to take a very small battery (which has gone the way of most batteries).

Question: Which would be the best battery for the camera - an Exell S400PX, a Wein MRB 400, a 387S silver oxide or an SR44/S76 ? Or...?

I am hoping to get an original, unmodified baseplate, by the way.

Anything that fits in the compartment will work. Note that the battery will go "upside down" as the polarity of the original px400 batteries were opposite to most other batteries.

Thanks, Berk. Appreciated. One thing, though.

'Upside down': Should the positive terminal be uppermost (facing the camera's innards) or downwards (facing the baseplate)?

+ faces the camera
- faces the battery cap

If you are using a smaller 1.5 battery you will need a plastic ring to hold it in place or you will have to stuff something before you put the cap on so that ot doesnt move around.

that should read:

If you are using a smaller 1.5 battery you will need a plastic ring to hold it in place or you will have to stuff something around the battery before you put the cap on so that the battery doesnt move around.

What I might want is an unmodified baseplate for an original Spotmatic.

Later today, with luck, I'll know whether I still need this.

I know very little about cameras..but have a Pentax Spotmatic...FINALLY found a battery...it is a S400PX BP 1.5 Silver....they put it in at the camera shop for me and the light meter actually started to work! The needle went up..and dropped back quickly signifying it was good. Looked at it again in the car before leaving shop..still worked...got home and the needle just hangs in one place! Like it's not working. I had the switch turned off..so it should not have drained the battery! Any ideas? Thanks.
