I have not worked on that particular EF lens so I will not venture to offer advise. You might however want to consult Canons part catalog for the lens, which contains a detailed construction drawing for it. The lens ring just unscrews counterclock wise just very hard to undo to reveal 3 pins which look like screws and need to be pryed out.
