I just bought a Canon TX. Very nice camera but the light meter seems off. Seems to only lines up with "correct" aperture setting when shutter speed is extremely slow (like 1/4 sec) or ASA setting is excessive (like 800). Former owner says battery is new. Is there any way to reset light meter if battery is, in fact, still good?

On several older Canons which I've purchased, I've noticed that the previous owners tried using the look alike 625A battery for power. The original 625 battery was 1.35 volts, but the newer 625A batteries are around 1.5-1.55 volts. Enough to throw off the light meter by 1-2 stops. In my TX, I use a 1.4 volt zinc air hearing aid battery which works just great. These can be had at Walmart, Target, etc. Check the battery in the camera and I'll just about bet it's a 625A, 1.5 volt battery.
