First, thank you all for your suggestions regarding the battery holder & contacts. I camera powers on now.

I've whacked the heck out of the body, sans lens, and gotten the mirror to come down. However, it sticks again in the 'up' position as soon as I fire the shutter.

Also...

Even when I can get the mirror to come down, the shutter stays open. I've done some research and found that it's a vertically travelling shutter. So my question is:

Can I use a pair of tweezers to pull the shutter down without damaging it? Or do I perhaps need to prod the shutter from another angle/side to get it to budge?

Fixed it...dunno for how long, but she's a-workin at the moment!
