If the battery is dead or missing on an FT3, will the sutter and film advance work at all. I have one in which the battery is missing and the film lever has been advanced. The camera will not fire. Is this a matter of just replacing the battery or are there larger problems with the sutter or advance mechanism?

The FT3 is not battery dependent. It's probable that the shutter release has jammed (common problem on N'mats). Does the button go down all the way or is it simply stuck?

Sounds like something has jammed in the shutter mechanism - a rather hard thing to fix even on these. Using a suitable sized screwdriver, remove the bottom plate, making sure you don't lose the rewind button which will drop loose. Towards the front of the camera you will see a silver metal bar, this is the release lever. The shutter release shaft pushes one end down and this should trip a smaller lever at right angles to the opposite end beside the battery compartment, releasing the shutter. Try pushing this end down into the camera to see if it releases. If it doesn't the shutter is pretty well jammed up, and we will have to appeal to other forum members who have dealt with this problem!
