My son's XA2 is playing up. Sometimes the shutter seems to fire at the correct speed and sometimes it's staying open for a second or two even when fired in bright sunlight. I replaced the batteries last week. The film speed is set at 400 iso. Any ideas what might be happening here?

Thanks,
Bruce

It might be a sticky exposure magnet. If you remove the bottom cover, you'll see an armature and electromagnet right in the middle. Carefully move the armature away from the electromagnet and clean the faces with tissue damp with solvent -- acetone or naptha (lighter fluid) will work fine. Be careful, though -- if you look very closely, you'll see the end of a tiny, tiny spring that pulls the armature against the electromagnet. If you accidentally hook that spring while cleaning and pull it off the armature, you will be _very_ disappointed!
