So, it seems the front lens assembly is waaaay too tight, as well as being placed next to the splined shaft making that basically a nono. So I was thinking of entering from the rear element. I assumed I'll need to take off the top plate, but I was wondering about the self timer lever, it has small holes for a tool I guess, does it turn clockwise (as you're looking at the camera) or anti clockwise? Any help on general rear element stuff appreciated. Thanks.

it's a left hand thread, turn clockwise to loosen:

The self timer lever on the RD has the same xxxx (censored) left hand thread as on the 35RC, i.e. it actually is the same lever with the same screw. Turn it clockwise to loosen it.

I recently found that a pair of tweezers with sharp tips is a good tool for these tiny snake-head screws if they are not too tight.

BTW there is another (unnecessary) left hand thread on the 35RC: the screw of the frame counter dial.
