The film advance lever is locked and the shutter will not fire. I have a proper 1.3 mercury battery installed. Any ideas on where I should start? The mirror is also locked in the down position.

CLA, and take it from there. Any signs of rust or corrosion visible in the battery chamber?
Battery has nothing to do with it.
Mirror is *supposed* to be locked down!

Did you remove the lens from the camera? Sometimes a jammed stop-down mechanism will keep the shutter from operating correctly.
