Hello,

My focotar lens needs to be cleaned. It's hazy and has dust on the
inside elements. Searching on the net I've found these two threads
from rec.photo.darkroom:

(I can't find anymore information on this issue)

Someone says: "If the back retaining ring has two small holes in it
you are in luck! Insert a spanner wrench and remove the ring. The back
element group comes out and you can then clean the inside surfaces.

I understand some of the lenses do not have the two small holes and
you have to drill them yourself. The material is brass, and so it
should be pretty easy to do if you have a drill press."

Another one recommends:

"About drilling holes. Its usually not necessary. You can get most
retaining rings off by using O-rings of sticky rubber and a tool like
a bottle cap of the right size to turn it. Some retaining rings are
painted over so its necessary to remove the paint from the threads
with a little solvent. This technique is less likely to damage the
lens or mount than drilling. In fact, I would try it on this lens
despite the spanner holes. "

The back reatining ring of my Focotar has the two small holes, but
after removing it I don't know how to continue disassembling the lens,
cause the back element group can't come out as there are another ring
without small holes. My Focotar version it looks like this one
http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~jq5t-ity/images/Fotar&DOORX_01.JPG (This
afternoon GMT+1 I'll try to post some pictures of my actual Focotar,
showing the back ring).

I would like to know if someone has tried before to clean his Focotar.
How to take apart the different parts (glass, rings, separators)
properly? How many elements does it have?

Thanks.
