The shutter seems to work fine with no battery in the camera but when battery installed and shutter button pushed, shutter opens and stays open until rewind lever moved. Also, on half push, yellow arrow goes on and stays on regardless of aperture. Battery is brand new.

...It seems that it's leaf shutter stuck of prolong storage !
...So use it as dry fire many times...put it more exercise ! every stop ...every speed ... every light condition.. and insert battery is a must.

Sounds like it could be either a Pad of Death problem, or the B, Auto, Flash selector - if the shutter fires at 1/500 without a battery and closes, it's not stuck open - you should always check that pad first if the shutter is playing up
