The shutter button started out intermitant, and now doesnt work at all. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, John

Just a side note, I have checked the battery and contacts. View finder shows the battery is operational. Thaks again, John

Search the archive for instructions on how to clean the 'magnetic' switches.You will find plenty of recent comments/posts.

Note that in well used camera you should always try a brand new battery first.View finder indications of battery function can be misleading.

Try the above and see if problem is solved.If not,you can contact me for notes on further trouble shooting.

the shutter release of the AE1 is a simple electrical switch - 2 copper strips that touch together when you press the button. one possibility is that these contacts could be dirty.

another is that the release magnet under the floor of the mirror box could be sticky.

Release solenoid or capacitor under the bottom plate could be bad.
