I just recieved a Cannon QL-17 camera in top condition.I have noticed though three problems.
1.The arpeture ring moves freely, but no arpeture leafs even when camera is cocked
2,The meter screen inside the viewfinder,is loose, and actually flopping inside.
3.Do not know what type of batterey this camera uses. The batterey compartnment is much larger then my ql-17 lll.

Any help would be appreciated,Thank You.

Ed,

1: Does the aperture open and close at all, at any setting? You are correct - the camera has to be cocked for the correct setting to be seen.

2: If the meter read-out in the finder is loose, that would most probably indicate impact damage. Did the camera come in a case? The case would have protacted the camera from a dent, but not from possible internal damage.

3: You probably have the early (1965) QL17, which had a larger body than the later 'new' QL17. The original 'new' QL17 was produced mainly in Japan, the later GIII QL17 mainly in Taiwan. I am not sure which battery the original QL17 takes, an extensive search on the internet will surely tell you the correct battery.

Good luck,

Jan

The first QL 17 took a PX1 battery which is no longer available since many years. The diameter is the same as that of the PX625 (app. 16 mm) and the heigth is also approximately 16 mm. You might replace it with a 625 and some kind of spacer (a spring or and aluminum knobb). The voltage was the same as that of the PX625 but the capacity was much higher.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it doesn't sound like "top condition".
