pentax spotmatic slr, the mirror only drops down sporadicly, doesn't seem to be any pattern to it but it is really frustrating, also the timer does not work. I love this camera and woul really like to continue using it. |

Check the archives. There have been several discussions of spotmatics. To summarize, you could have one or more of the following problems: 1) Sticky mirror bumber foam 2) Dried lubricant or dirt in the mirror return mechanism, curtain shafts, slow speed escapement, or self timer 3) Loss of tension in the curtain springs Usually all you need is a cleaning. |

sometimes tension from lever on left side of mirror box that releases the meter switch (mostly when meter switch is engaged and then not manually shut off) can cause sluggish action of the mirror--this is usually accompannied by meter not shutting off). With the front off, this can be lubricated--the pivot and a light grease where mirror hits it. |
