I'm trying to repair an AE-1 Program I picked up for cheap. I managed to get it working, now I have it disassembled and want to lube it properly (It has a bad case of shutter squeak). Can anyone tell me what these lubricants are, specifically what can I use as a sustitute? Lozoid #72090 Astro oil Photo lube PL-001 UTLM-70 UTLM-10 E73-143003 ARONTITE FLA LTS-H GE-7 Any suggestions? Thanks from Southwest Kansas |

For shutter squeal, just use a very light, thin oil. There's something called "ultra Lite Oil" that i got at a hobby shop that looks pretty good; gun oil will also work, and i've used WD40 successfully by putting it in a jar and letting the solids settle to the bottom, then dipping the clear oil off the top. |

Rick, I have the mirror box pulled out and found the squeal, and was able to get rid of it with Rem gun oil. While I have it apart, I wanted to completely clean and lube any point I can get at. The list of lubricants above are what the manual suggest to use at various points. Astro oil I assume is clock oil? Anyone have any comments about using rem oil as a replacement? Is lozoid a moly grease? I found some synthetic grease at Nappa by sta-lube in a small 2.5 ounce tube (brake caliber grease), it contains moly d, graphite and teflon. Possibly use this for the lozoid? Or possibly zebco white grease for the lozoid? I assume it is a white lithium. Live in a smaller town and was lucky to find gun oil. Also dont want to spend alot of money on expensive oils. |

I've used rem oil, it seems pretty good. I don't know that I'd go crazy lubricating things, though, there's not really that much in there that really needs it, and overlubrication can cause at least as much harm as under-. the squeal wheel is the only place i would lubricate, unless you see a need. rick = |
