Hi,

I have an Olympus XA which has a bit of fungus in the rangefinder glass, I can take care of that.

There is also a bit of fungus on the lens element that moves with focus. I realize that the lens elements have pretty tight tolerances in this one. Fungus looks like it is on the front of the moving element. Is there any easy way to get the front elements out to clean the moving element or am I risking setting the lens out of focus without a collimator and micrometer?
Thanks
Sean

I looked in the repair manual, and it looks like the front elements come out as a unit with the surround that holds the moving/focusing element in place... so if you removed this (a few screws around the flange, but a few other things have to come off first) it looks to me like you will have to reset/calibrate the focus. According to the shop manual this requires a special tool to fix the floating/focusing element in a specific place before adjusting the lens focus as a unit with a collimator. Sounds like its only worth doing if you can't use the camera otherwise... I think the repair manual is available online -- check in the
Repair Manuals like to the left...

Jim,
I think this one I will leave alone after hitting it with a bit of UV light to prevent further growth. Accuracy to one micron ain't going to happen unless I managed to find the special tool!
Ciao
