Hi- I have a pentax spotmatic , works okay, but the shutter screen has some discoloration. Has anyone ever "re-colored" a screen? Thanks in advance for the help |

Do you mean the shutter curtains? Which side...fabric side or vulcanized side? Jon |

Hi Jon- I don't have the camera in front of me at the moment, but it's the side you see when you open the film door. thanks |

Hi, Richard. If that side is discolored, I'd leave it alone. You might be able to brighten the curtains up with a black Marks-A-Lot, but I'd resist the temptation to use a liquid dye. Mostly anything you do on the side that faces the film will be aesthetic, and I don't believe it will make any difference to the picture-taking ablility anyhow. How are the light seals? Usually that is the most common problem, and I can certainly help with that. Jon |

you might try a little lighter fluid, dry cleaners sovent, etc, on a Qtip and rub gently. Does it look like mold--kind of gray? You should backup the opposite side from where you're rubbing, so you don't push the curtain out of place. |

Bob, 1) Excersize a little patience - answers do not come within 4 minutes! 2) The word 'please' works wonders. 3) If the tear in the shutter is indeed an inch long, it is time for a new curtain. 4) Since I do not know your level of expertise I would recommend a trip to your friendly local camera technician. Replacing a shutter curtain is beyond the abilities of most camera tinkerers. Good luck, Jan |
