Does anyone know the procedure for properly repositioning the two rotating lenses on a Super Ikonta B?

I have one that was frozen before taking it apart for cleaning and lubing. I've reassembled the range finder assembly twice and haven't had much luck with getting it right for other than one particular distance.

Is there a sure fire method to realigning the two rotating lenses?

I've never worked on the Super Ikonta, but I have aligned the prisms on my Moskva-5, which is really a clone of the Super Ikonta C.

And yes, there is one sure-fire method of aligning those suckers:

o try the rangefinder
o if the images don't move horizontally, open the rangefinder mechanism
o move one of the prisms one tooth (same direction each time)
o go to first step

Actually, it didn't take me as long as you might fear. And when the prisms are in the correct alignment, it's very obvious: there's only one place where the image will "walk" exactly horizontally.

Thanks David. I think I had the prisms reversed. Once I reversed them, the range finder started working normally and it was easy to adjust the sucker a tooth at a time. There is definitely no shortage of gears on this camera.

On Dante Stella's page there are some instructions how to align the rangefinder. Check

www.dantestella.com

it's hidden somewhere in the camera/photo/technical department of his site.

I had a look at Dante's page. It looks like the Super Ikonta A & C used a somewhat simpler mechanism than the Type 532/16. The Super Ikonta B has two prisms that rotate in opposite directions and driven by gear train by the large gear teeth on the focus ring for the front element.

It is as David said, once the two prisms are aligned so that the range finder patch is to the left of real image, then one walks the adjustment a tooth at a time until they line up on the real image for a specific target. Mark the alignment of the prisms and the base plate. Then remove the prisms, set the focus ring and resinstalled the prisms to the alignment marks.

It is much simpler than it would seem.
