The light meter does not move on my camera under any circumstances. Is it easy to get to where it may need cleaning/lubricating? Is there anyone who may know what could be causing this problem?
I had a spotmatic in which the meter didnt work. I suspected battery corrosion because the battery cap was frozen to the base plate. when I removed the plate I saw a mechanism like two little gears attached to a plate. It was covered with corrosion. I removed it quite easily and soaked it in vinegar to clean. when I replaced the piece the meter worked fine.
Not sure if this is going to help your camera. but battery corrosion can be a problem with these cameras. Thats the first thing I would check.
I've found that once a battery cover has suffered corrosion and needs cleaning once, it soon needs it again because the plating is gone. On two of my Pentaxes I've cleaned the cover and then sweated on a small piece of gold-plated conductor retrieved from a computer PCB or SHF connector. the problem is then permanently solved! Steve
