I have one of these which is fine except that the lower shutter speeds 1 sec to 1/15th dont work in cold weather. The mirror locks up and you have to wind on to get it going again. Indoors or in warm weather there is no problem. Any ideas.

It sounds like the slow speed escapement needs a clean. To get to it, you have to remove the mirror box. This camera is constructed very like a Pentax Spotmatic. |

Thanks John, sounds like a big job to me, am I right. Would it best be left to experts or is it a diy job. |

If you have mechanical aptitude, and have worked on other cameras, it is a straightforward enough job. Getting the camera CLAd professionally would probably not be economic. Perhaps you could avoid using the slow speeds? Or, if you want to take up camera repair as a hobby, you could make it your first project. There are some useful repair books reviewed on this site, and people here are helpful with advice. |
