Hi,
I have a Minolta SRT101 that I got a Wein cell for and the light meter still doesn't work. I purchased an SRT201 (instead of having the SRT 101 repaired) that the owner swears the light meter works on, but kept the battery for another camera (it is a mercury 625). I tried a second new Wein cell & the light meter worked for about 2 minutes and now nothing. Are these batteries just bad or incompatable? Is there anything else I can try? If not can someone recommend a good manual camera that takes a battery that is still being made?

Thanks-
Donna

Hi Donna,

If I remember correctly, the Wein cell is a zinc-air battery. Did you remove the protective cover over the small openings such that ambient air can enter the cell? If no air can enter, a Wein cell will not work.
I have a very similar Minolta SRT303 and when mercury batteries were no longer available in Belgium, I ordered an adapter (via www.rolleiclub.nl) which lets me use silveroxide SR76 cells. The Minolta meter performs flawlessly on these silveroxide cells. The only drawback is that you can no longer trust the battery check function.
Sincerely,
Jos
