Hi. My brother passed away a few years ago and I have his camera. I just got it out to use it and found that I can't open it to put in film. I've tried everything obvious to open it but there must be a trick or another gadget needed to open it. Can someone offer a suggestion? Thanks, Nancy

Just pulling up on the rewind knob should do it. If not, and it's been sitting for a long time, maybe the light seal foam has gotten gummy and sticking the back closed. Try pulling up on the rewind and with the other hand pull outward on the edge of the back at open side and see if that does it. You should feel some spring resistance when you pull up on the rewind knob.

Have been cleaning up my deceased brother's camera collection and have run into several problems. The film advance lever on his Minolta XG-M will only move about 15 degrees. Is there a lock function on the camera? Put in new batteries but did not solve the problem. Also, there is a Kalimar SR 300 (Soviet Union) that seems to be in perfect working condition. Any one know of a source of instruction manuals for it?

Norm,

Your Kalimar SR 300 is the same camera as a Zenit E, manual can be obtained here:

More info here:
