Have an XG-1 on which when you advance the film, you must turn the "screw head" on the bottom for the auto-film rewinder a quarter of a turn counter clockwise. After doing this the camera operates normally except this step must be taken every shot.

Sounds like the film advance lever is not returning all the way like it should. Usually caused by friction in the winding levers/gears. Most likely someone applyed too much force to the winder arm at one time and damaged a piece inside causing the friction. It can be fixed by replacing/fixing the damaged part or you can get a standard auto-winder-G which will help on the return.

Shutter has to be overhauled and lubricated. Advance shaft is unable to properly charge and release shutter gears due to lack of lubrication within shutter mechanism. We specialize in service and repair of 35mm SLR cameras and are certainly familiar with this particular problem. Our estimate for this particular model is $53.00.
