After a recent plane trip in which my EF 2.8L 70-200 lens was in checked luggage (Don't do it!), the zoom will not work. I am wondering if I should buy an repair manual and attempt this or send it off to a repair shop. Does anyone have any experience with repairing this lens? How hard will it be to fix this problem? |

Send it to a repair shop. Since this is a fairly new lens they will still have parts.
But for what it is worth...
Generally, in my experience, a locked up zoom is due to the helix threads being shoved over the next thread. Kind of like cross threading. That is, on the zooms that use threads. On those that use rollers and slots usually the roller has vibrated loose. Regardless, the lens will need to be disassembled. |

Send it back to Canon. They will fix it better, faster and probably cheaper than a local shop. They also go the extra mile and clean out dust and calibrate all lenses they work on. |
