My friend gave me a Ricoh XR7 which has been idle for more than 10 years. When I put in new batteries and press the shutter release, the mirror went up but the shutter didn't release. Now the mirror remains up and film advance lever frozen. I opened the base and unlocked the film advance but the mirror doesn't come down. I guess the mirror magnet might be stuck. Any ideas? How can I reach the magnet? I have looked at the base and think that I can't reach the magnet there. Any assistance is appreciated! |

It may just be bad contact in the battery compartment. Try cleaning the contact and bending it up a bit to make sure it presses against the batteries. Also, double check to make sure the batteries are loaded with correct polarity. Your symptoms are those of a power failure. |

Thanks Haig. I have pulled down the mirror and look at the display. The meter is moving. Therefore I think the battery is good. Any ideas? |

Ricoh XR cameras range suffer from the mirror mech. rubber bumper disintegrating with age. The bits fall into the shutter/mirror mech. and cause the camera to lock up. |
