Hello,

My Praktica MTL3 has a stain which I beleive is on the prism. It appears as two vertical lines center/bottom in the viewer. I have no idea what it is or how it got there, but I would really appreciate any advice as to how I could remove it.

Thanks,

Robert

This sounds like the silver is deteriorating on the prism surface. There have been some discussions of the task of resilvering a prism, but I've never done it.

Thanks,

Sounds like it might be more serious than I had thought. But I'm wondering, how will this affect the photos? And, is there any way to wipe off the prism?

The camera was sitting in my closet for about 8 months, and when I recently pulled it out, the marks were present.

Hi Robert!
The stains could be on the focusing screen. But whether on the prism or screen they will have no effect on your photos.

Are you sure that what you are seeing is not bits of deteriating mirror damper rubber that has stuck to the mirror ?

Thanks for all the conjectures! I think it could be one of any number of things.

But since the camera also had a problem with the take up spool, I left it at the repair shop to get a professional estimate.

The camera isn't worth a great deal to begin with, but I'll let you know if I find out for sure about the stain.

many thanks

RB
