I have a Konica S2 that seriously under exposes and it seems to be exaggerated in lower light conditions . I have cleaned the battery check switch and the wiring at the battery holder is in excellent shape. Could the problem be the battery as I am using an equivilent alkaline battery with slightly higher voltage. The problem seems to be more exagerated than the difference in the voltage from the original battery.

You can't determine the error in lightmeter indication from the difference between (nominal) battery voltages. 10 p.c. more battery voltage can cause an error of more than 1/10 of lightmeter full scale. You should check the meter with a mercury, zinc-air or Wein cell.

Also, as stated many times before in this forum and many others, alkaline cells cannot be used for most lightmeters since their voltage is not constant and will be anything between 1.55V and 1.0V (or whatever you define as lower limit) during their operational life. Lightmeters like in the Auto-S2 depend on a constant voltage of 1.35V as delivered by the above mentioned cells.
