I have a Minolta X370 that seems to have either an electrical short in on off switch, or a faulty switch. I need to know how to remove film advance lever so I can remove top cover. The retaining device on film advance lever has what appears to be a slot for a philips screwdriver but I can't get it to budge in either direction. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the service manual? You can download it at the Free Minolta Manuals site:
