I just got hold of an Auto S2 that looks clean, but the focus ring does not turn through its full range. Does anyone know how this camera's lens is disassembled, or have guesses on what might limit focus movement? Not sure if it's just the ring or the focus itself that is jammed. (The whole lens seems a little loose, actually.)

First, you should check whether the lens is properly adjusted (see the repair article section
https://kyp.hauslendale.com/classics/testequipment.html for instructions how to check this).
If the lens is in proper focus within the limits of the focus ring you have to loosen the focus ring and set it against the oo mark.
If you can't focus the lens correctly at any given position of the focus ring maybe something is hindering the lens from full travel. I once found a loose screw from a previous repair attempt (by the previous owner) between the rear lens flange and the body. The shutter assembly of the Auto-S2 is easy to separate from the body, there is a big ring nut (the outermost) around the mount of the rear lens elements. |

Thanks! The camera does focus at a narrow range between about eight feet and fifteen. Your suggestion that perhaps it's the lens travel that's being blocked rather than the ring is certainly the way to approach things in hindsight. |
