Hello:

Aside from forgetting where in the house I put my Retina Reflex S, I have a shutter question (Compur).

The shutter got progressively slow and then stuck open. I haven't done anything to it so it's a good candidate for cleaning.

I have poor luck getting non-simple cameras back together, and have heard this one is not easy to work on. Hoever, quotes for CLA were frightening (close to $200).

I put a pinhole disc in it last time I used it, but I owe the camera the restoration of it's dignity...if it only needs to have the shutter cleaned, how hard is it to access enough of the shutter to flush it?

I have time to dwell on the answer while looking for the camera.

Thanks

Murray

Hi, Murray.
Well...you could remove the lens from the front. This will reveal the shutter blades, which can be given a bath of naphtha. It might help...contact cleaner might help, too, but be positively certain to use one that is plastic safe. I think I'd stick with naphtha, personally. Ronsonol is the same thing.

if what Jon advised doesn't help, don't even think about taking it apart--one the most difficult cameras to work one.
