I have just purchased a Praktica TL1000 (very cheaply, I'm glad to say). My first roll of test shots show an orange/yellow cast on all the prints which may suggest light is leaking into the camera body.

When the camera is opened, there appears to be a strip of some kind of foam material along the edge of the "door" on the hinged side which has clearly deteriorated. Could this be the cause of the problem and, if so, where can I get replacement material? Alternatively, can anyone suggest a material that can be improvised? I live in the UK.

I am a complete novice and I know zilch about cameras. However, I only spent £20 on it so I feel OK about tinkering with it.

Please reply in terms you would use for a three year old idiot. I promise not to feel patronised. Thank you in anticipation.

Hi, Ron.
You have already identified the devil. To exorcise him, please go to E-Bay and search using the "Items by Seller" option. Enter my ID...Interslice...and there will be the kit you'll need. A mere $6.80 will deliver it quickly to the UK. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Jon

Hi Ron,

I am sure that Jon's solution will help you - but I just want to mention, that I fixed the problem you described at several of my Prakticas with simple foam-tape, which can be bought at a DIY-store. Have a look at the available tapes for sealing windows or doors. For me, it just took a while to find a black foam-tape with a thickness of about 3 to 4 mm, which comresses good enough at the edge of the back door of the camera body.
