I have a ME Super I purchased new in 1981. This is the first trouble I have had with it. When in Auto or Manual mode, the shutter appears to work OK, but is giving either a much faster shutter speed than indicated, or mostly no exposure at all. Exposures longer than 1/15th sec do seem to work OK. 125x and bulb settings function normally. No other problems with the LEDs, winding etc. The camera has never been professionally cleaned. Is it likey that is what it needs, or does this indicate something that needs repaired/replaced? Any input appreciated!

Yes, that is probably all it needs. The resistor tracks sounds dirty.

Thanks Henry for the quick reply. After I read your post, I took the top cover off and cleaned the two variable resistors with CRC contact cleaner. I assume these are the resistor tracks you were refering to. Moved the contacts left & right, then back to original position. Unfortunately, no change in shutter behavior. Any other suggestions. Thanks!

The track I was refering to is under the front bezel. It can be seen in my ME Super Rambling article.

No guarantee. It just sounds like it might be the aperture track.

Is that something a repair shop should handle, or could it be done myself without too much disassembly. What is the procedure? Thanks again for your help!

It is a bunch of disassembly. Maybe this time it might be best if you took it to a shop. That is if any shop in your area still works on M-series Pentax's.

If not...there are a couple you can find by Googling that still do.

Hi guys,
sounds same/similar to my prob, ME Super 1981. getting greasy marks on focal plane shutter blades even after cleaning, can't quite tell if it's coming from above or below blade recesses.
Is it old age, or can I fix it - or find who fixes these things in the UK - preferably near Birmingham West Midlands?
