Hi,

I was given an old Tower 44 TLR and for the most part the camera looked to be in good condition. The shutterblades were gummy, but cleaned up well with some Rosonal. But I noticed that the shutter will not release completely. I can push the shutter release once, but it stays open until I let go of the button, similar to how a typical "bulb" setting acts. Does anyone know why this or any camera, without actually being set to bulb would act like it was?
Thanks for your help!

In most shutters there is a certain lever actuated by a cam on the speed cam disk which activates the B setting, i.e. keeps the shutter open until the shutter button is released. If this lever is misbent, or 'frozen' in its position, on some shutter arrangements it will possibly cause permanent opening of the shutter.

Since the blades were gummy, I suspect that the gears and levers inside are gummy too. A good cleaning will probably fix it.
