I have a Nikon F2's DP-1 meter with a jumpy needle so I disassembled it following Glen Walpert's nice site . His article strongly recommended scribing indelible alignment marks on the plastic aperture gear, the brush holder ring, and the ring resistor. Of course, I used a marker and after an unthinking swipe with some acetone, I was left with an unindexed ring resistor. I see a dark, vertical line on its inner surface. Can this be used as an endogenous index? There are other asymmetries but I don't know if these are just manufacturing irregularities. In short, can I align this thing by exploiting physical landmarks or by taking a multimeter to it?

Also, I can't seem to get the shutter speed string correctly installed on the pulley. Should it be at its shortest when set at 1/2000?

Will the DP-1 service manuals on sale on online auction sites solve my problems? One of the descriptions implies that the manual is little more than an exploded parts diagram and not a detailed, idiot-proof repair manual. Thanks for any help. b------
