I have a Chinon CX II with an apparently dead meter. The battery circuit is working (1.35v battery) and the camera is in excellent condition otherwise. The only options I can think of are a. dead cds cells (I can see these behind the prism) or b. inoperative switch (this is on the shutter release shaft - I cannot see signs of any contacts but they must be in there somewhere). Alternatively the solenoid that operates the match needle has failed. Does anyone have an exact procedure for fixing these?

Hm, I just found the answer myself. Another Chinon. It cost very little and all works - it's a CS but the two are identical apart from a few switch contacts in different places.
