I have an intermittent problem on my pentax P30 whereby the manual wind on lever doesn't cock the shutter, and just keeps on winding until the end of the film. I can then load another film and it works fine. It's my third camera body and not really valuable, though would be useful if I could make it work. Does anybody have any idea what he poblem might be?

Hi John,
Hopefully you will have seen my reply on the Pentax users site but the problem is most likely caused by the rubbers in the wind mechanism bieng worn. Unless you can find a "dead" body with suitable replacements, it is probably not worth getting fixed.

What "rubbers" are you talking about. I haven't been into a Pentax in a few months but I don't remember any rubber bumpers (like Konica) or rubber sound damping sleeves (like newer P&S's).

What I would figure is that there might be a couple problems. First the windlock has been over stressed and bent allowing repeated windings.

And secondly, if the shutter itself really isn't being cocked fully, the push-me-pull-you levers have buckled and no longer stroke far enough to latch the curtains. You can tell this by looking at the curtains and seeing if they travel both directions during cocking.
