Hi. I just got a mint-looking auto S2 that had a stuck timer. I freed the timer, but the shutter still won't open. before I go tearing into the shutter with lighter fluid, I want to ask this question - Is it really a stuck shutter or something else?

I ask this because with the winder cocked the shutter release depresses all the way without any soft "click" or resistance that I would expect even if the shutter blades were gummed shut. When I remove the bottom plate I can see a portion of the shutter cocking assembly. There is a small tab I can move out of the way to allow the winder to function. When it does, some metal pieces slide towards the lens and I can see a shaft turning underneith that I assume connects to the shutter. When I release the winder everything returns to its original position. Nothing appears to have stayed "cocked". I can repeat this procedure over and over with no change. So, are the shutter blades just dirty (they look very clean), or is there something else that is not making a connection?

Thanks!!!

~Jon

Of course I haven't seen your camera, but everything you describe sounds like the classic Auto S2 Stuck Shutter Blade Syndrome. Click here:

This should give you some insight to the problem.

Try this link and search for Auto S 2 overhaul: http://feuerbacher.net/photo/frame.html plus this forum's "search" function, everything you need is there, W.
