Recently bought an XG-M from an antique store - camera's in great shape cosmetically, meter is dead-on with my other SLRs, only problem is that the shutter seems to be firing about 1 to 2 stops slower than it should - I'm using my Minolta X-700 for reference. Also, if I set the shutter to 1 second, it stays open for about 1.5 to 2 seconds. Can the meters on these be adjusted? Is it at all straight-forward?

I have a PDF of a X-700 Service Manual that does get into adjustments. I don't know if it is applicable to the XG-M. It's a 30M file so it would be difficult to email. I think I got it from here

http://service-manual.eu/model.php?id=432

Good luck.

And here's a link to a PDF of the XG-M service manual.

Not sure if the adjustment u need is covered as I haven't really had time to go through it but I would think it should be.

Good Luck

The camera suffers from very cheap electrical components, particularly the capacitors. It's the aging of components which can cause problems.

Fortunately it's usually possible to bring the speeds in by adjusting the pots which are located on the flex over the prism. You will need to get the top off and will also need some sort of a shutter speed tester.

If you are interested in trying that let me know and I will e-mail you a diagram and suggestions.
