So I just picked up a fantastic specimen of this camera today that aside from needing new seal foam honestly appears unused. However, for some reason shutter speeds of 1/4 and below all seem to take much longer than they should. i.e. 1/4 takes about 4 seconds, 1/2 takes 8 or 9. Everything 1/8 and up appears fairly accurate when eyeballing the speeds against other known working cameras. Interestingly, if I move the shutter speed up to 1/8 during the several second delay, the shutter immediately trips. Any ideas? |

This sounds like a dirty timing escapement. |

Although I'm sure a CLA would be the best solution, if the thing has sat a long time, the cheapskate's first move would be to set it on each of the low speeds, and fire it about 50 times. Sometimes a lazy escapement will wake up with use. I've had good luck on a couple of old cameras that would occasionally misfire on low speeds. Worth a try, at least. |
