I have a Canon 35mm f2 screw mount lens and the aperture ring became a bit squeaky. Next thing I know a small, thin round wire slides out of the aperture ring and now the stops don't click into position anymore - the aperture ring is very loose.
See photo of the wire here:

I sent it to Calumet Photo and they sent it to Canon. Canon said they couldn't fix it and no explanation why. Is it fixable? Anyone know what could be wrong and what to do?

See photo link above.

Thanks!

This looks like it should be fixble but you'd be better off going to an independent repairer who, maybe, has exeperience of older cameras. I can believe Canon wouldn't touch it.

This may be the spring that holds the little ball bearing that is responsible for clicks.

I haven't worked on canon lenses but generally, the LTM lenses are very similar to each other, and are some of the easiest to work with. (Canon probably refused because they couldn't plug it to their computer?)
You could send it to the any LTM specialist or any repairman who works with classic cameras.
If you choose to try yourself the you typically need first to remove the optical block from focussing mount. It either just unscrews (may have some small retaining screw hidden somewhere) or it has a retaining ring at the back of the lens.
Then it should be quite straightforward to the point when this small bearing falls out to the floor, and the one you find there isn't the right one for some reason...:-)

The wire ring is the aperture detent spring, this worked loose because the 'lube' dried out completely. Any reputable repairer can fix this: however, it could be a very simple job to remove the aperture ring and facilitate a repair, perhaps somebody has details of the procedure? Unfortunately I have I only seen a lens with the problem, I did not do the repair - so cannot help in this matter.

Understandably Canon only repair current equipment - this fact is common knowledge and should have been known by Calumet, before they wasted your time by sending the lens to the wrong repair company.

Thanks! I'll give it another shot at a more specialized lens repair company.
