sister gave me this camera. I put in a new battery and nothing works, not even the battery check. Appears to be in good shape, battery contacts clean and shiny. No sign of damage or abuse. Might it be repairable? John

How long is a piece of string?

Have you actually cleaned the battery contacts? Shiny looking contacts can still cause problems, so give them a good clean and polish with a cleaning board/fine abrasive. If this does not work then it will require deeper delving, and whilst the cause may simple to correct, unless you are into DIY the cost of professional help will be far more than the camera is actually worth. It all depends on where sentiment sits on the scale of values - I thought that the money I paid to have my late Father's first Leica professionally restored was money well spent.

Somebody here may have detailed experience of this model and be able to point you straight at the problem. Although all the A Series do have similarities, this is the one model that I have never bothered with.

Thanks so much. I rubbed the contacts with an emory board, replaced the battery, looked in the viewfinder, and the needle was moving. I pressed the shutter button, and "click" it worked. To think it was something that simple that sent it to the yard sale where my sister bought it. Thanks again, John
