My Canon AE-1 is not getting power. I've tried two new batteries and have lightly sanded the contacts already. Next step is to check the wiring. I took the screw out of the top of the battery copartment. Would I be correct in assuming there are more screws under the leatherette? I don't want to pull the leatherette off if there are no screws under there.

Actually, the next step I would take is to check the battery box wiring, but it can be checked by removing the bottom cover and the red wire going to the Mg3 combination magnet is coming direct from the battery box so you can check for 6 volts at that point. Battery box wiring is not a typical problem with A series camera and it's a good thing since the battery box can not be removed without taking off the front plate/mirror box and that is not a trivial matter.
