I recently bought a No. 4 Cartridge Kodak online, only to find out that the release button was broken. I have been shoving a narrow screwdriver to release the latch to open the front. Has anybody ever repaired one of these before, and how would you do it? I was thinking maybe put a screw inside the hole, so the screw would push down the latch to open it, and then cover it up with a vinyl repair? Any other thoughts?

Probably the best strategy is a similar camera as a parts donor. Look for one with (say) blown out bellows. It wouldn't need to be the unusual No. 4 size, a No. 2 or 2A would probably be a lot cheaper.

The leather is probably held onto the body with shellac. It should go across the hole, of course. You could cut the same peice of leather off the other camera, lift it, pull the pin, and transplant. Yeah, there will be a seam in the pebble grain.
