alright, i've tried to fix a pentax k1000's asa dial. it wasn't moving (the shutter speed dial does tuen and raise up). so, i unscrewed it, took out a couple pieces of sand, and expected the best. nope. no go. so, what to do now? well, i have another K1000, so i thought, let's do an uncontaminated sample test and unscrew a perfectly good one...you know, seeing if i can put it back together. well, i took it apart, put it back together (lining up the tabs and such), and does it work? NO! now i have not one but two K1000's with no asa adjustment! live and learn! so tell me, what am i doing wrong in my re-assembly!!! please help! -paul-

Paul,

The ASA dial is a little tricky on re-assembly on the K1000 (and the Spotmatic etc). You have to make sure that everything is aligned properly inside the shutter speed dial before you close it all up.

The trick is to make sure that the ASA dial can move up and down against the spring and that it stays that way after re-assembly. Just going by memory.....

Hi Paul,
What you need is a K-1000 repair manual.
Give me your name and address and I will mail you a copy on CD.
You will need Acrobat Reader so you can print it.
